04.11.2009 - Special clearance of a Bulk Carrier on the South Quay
The special berthing of an enormous ship, the “Genco Champion”, occurred
in the Inner Harbour of the South Quay in October.
The Bulk Carrier had an approximate length of 170 meter and a loading capacity of
about 23,000 tons. It was loaded, in Emden, with 16,000 tons of calcinated Petcoke produced by BP Coke.
To enable a speedy clearance process, two loading bridges were used when required.
On leaving Emden the “Genco Champion” continued to Rotterdam where a further 7,000 tons were loaded
before going to its final destination on the West Coast of the U.S.A.
